In conversation with an Atheist
Today, I was going through some Islamic sites to see whether I could find something interesting or something new hidden among the wily masses of the very vast yet ever-mesmerizing teachings that the religion beholds. I came across a video in which a Sheikh talks about "Ghafla" (heedlessness towards God's sayings) and I wanted to download it.But very soon, due to my lack of prowess in the techie field, I realized that I had to first LEARN to download., and only then could I download and watch the video. So I called up a computer-wiz friend of mine who knew the ins and outs of downloading and uploading, to seek advice. My friend was on a lunch break and he was quite eager to spend the few minutes post -lunch to teach me the art of downloading videos.
Eventually, as the process commenced, we started chatting of random things, old friends doing new things, places, and the story of Pi. Suddenly, he cracked a joke saying that God has postponed the plan of making an apocalypse and it wont be happening anytime this year. Of course I said it was not bound to happen , being the olways-optimistic tutor that I am.... Here I am trying to teach English to a bunch of people who cannot tell the difference between 'by' and 'buy'. and God is planning to end the world??! Of course that's not happening, Surely he shouldn't make all the efforts I put in so long go waste!!
Then we went into a long ordeal about the presence or absence of the entity called GOD, of whom the whole world is so obsessed about.. Seriously,, this guy has the highest fan following and is the most sought for celebrity in the entire universe!! My friend believes that there indeed is a power, a positive energy that gives us positive vibes and pushes us to do newer and better things.. But actually its the thought that is there in everybody's head that provokes them to do things..whether good or bad. Every man who has reached anywhere today whether grave or shrine, light or dark, riches or poverty, calm or viral, happy or sad, is because his thoughts led him there. It is the thought that manifests in the brain as a single electric spark and transforms into a feeling, emotion, or an idea, and which then leads a man to do or not do something.. God is someone we turn to. He doesn't direct our thoughts..he just lays the backdrop for our thoughts to materialize into things that can be seen, touched, felt, talked about, and experienced. People do argue that if it were a lie, it wouldn't have sustained all these years, all through the civilizations and all through mankind and reach us, (to be one day written about on this blog). But it did stay. Like the sun, the moon and the space. It survived. The truth(what it is called, since it is believed) survived.
There was a time when I was scared because he was always looking. He'd see me colouring my sister's colouring books secretly cz I didnt ask her permission.. He'd see me hiding my books because the teacher did not correct it and I was afraid to go to her. He'd see me lying to my mom about a fever so that I could skip school.. But now, I dont fear him. Over the years, He..that invisible power with satellite eyes has become someone who knows everything about me, yet doesn't mind.I could choose to like him or dislike him, he doesn't care. Many a times I felt him..or maybe it was just plain happiness, and I gave it his name.. Whatever it might be.. I know of one thing for sure. He invented humor, and therefore, he intends us to absorb it, indulge in it and share it....Even with him., and not be all stuck up and morose when it comes to Religion and Worship. I know that he laughs and might be one funny....er..man...
Thus, I spoke to an atheist today, who helped me download a video about paying heedlessness towards GOD!!
